An Evening with the Everglades
Date: Thursday, Feb. 25
Time: 7:00 p.m.
Location: Zoom

Join 90.7 WMFE and the Florida Center for Investigative Reporting for a virtual conversation about the massive plan to save the Everglades on Thursday Feb. 25 at 7 p.m.
In the final days of his administration, with the eyes of the world on Florida where the epic 2000 election recount was underway, President Bill Clinton quietly signed into law a plan to restore the Everglades. Twenty years and $17 billion later, the grandiose vision of reversing decades of environmental damage remains stuck in the swamp.

Hear from WMFE News' environmental reporter Amy Green, who spent some 10 years researching and writing a book about the restoration and two of its most influential and unlikely proponents, George and Mary Barley. Her book MOVING WATER is due to be published March 2 by Johns Hopkins University Press. Her reporting led to a WMFE podcast in partnership with the Florida Center for Investigative Reporting. DRAINED is available now at WMFE.org, FCIR.org and wherever you get your podcasts.

WMFE Intersection host Matthew Peddie will moderate the conversation.

Other panelists include:

•Trevor Aaronson, executive director, Florida Center for Investigative Reporting, a nonprofit news organization supported by foundations and individual contributions

•Mary Barley, founding director of the Everglades Foundation,  a nonprofit working to protect and restore America’s Everglades through science, advocacy & education.
